?TODAY is all about GORDO: Over 10 years ago I got Gordo with all the savings I had. I had just graduated high school and wanted to start a new chapter with a new furry partner in crime. At that time I was going to college in Ecuador and not in the US. I did not have enough money to get a dog from a pet store so I went online and found the most beautiful labrador retriever ever. At that time adopting a pet was not a popular concept in Ecuador and I honestly had no idea that I was something I could even do. I remember when I opened my door and this little precious brown bundle with a yellow bow around his neck was there just waiting for a new mommy. From that moment he stole my heart. I had to hid him for over 2 weeks as my mom did not want me to have pets, unfortunately she discovered my little secret but I got lucky and he was able to stay. Six months went by and we had such a great time and so many photoshoot with my friends but then I had an opportunity to go to college to the US arise. I had to say goodbye to him but it was not for long in my mind… But five years went by and before I was back living in Ecuador but this time I was living in an apartment so he was still at my mom's farm. I made sure to visit him frequently and make sure he had everything he needed. One year later I move again, this time to Spain for a year. At the end of that year I receive a call from my mom saying that the vet recommended to put Gordo down as he had such bad arthritis that he could not even stand up. I ask my mom to please fight for his health until I was back in 3 weeks. She did, they both fought for his life and his health managed to improve drastically. Many years wiser at this point I knew that my responsibility was to be with him ALWAYS and never again leave him behind. We decided to move to the US with him so we could take him on a long road trip across the US, so he could pee on and smell as much as possible before his arthritis gets worst. Since then it has all been uphill and full of amazing moments. He has been over 30 states and now he is able to walk up to 7 miles a day! He is happy and healthy.
